Morag Myerscough [UK] + Community
From schools and hospitals to cultural hubs and town centres Morag transforms public spaces by creating engaging experiences for everyone.
London-based artist Morag Myerscough is renowned for her vibrant installations that transform public spaces and foster belonging.
For Sunnyside, Morag Myerscough has created a natural world built from Ballarat’s own voice, woven from local stories, patterns, and a chorus of community spirit. Born of workshops and wonder, the installation hums with colour, hand craft and care. This is an artwork alive with the sounds of place. Guided by her mantra, “make happy those who are near,” Morag transforms space into story, offering visitors a vivid, joyful journey.

Creative Team
Sunnyside is the result of a deeply collaborative creative process led by The Social Crew, grounded in community engagement and co-creation.
The artwork has been developed in collaboration with internationally recognised artist Morag Myerscough, bringing global perspectives to local stories. Through workshops, consultation, and hands-on experiences, over 60 Ballarat locals contributed ideas, inspiration, and creative input that echo throughout the final experience.
Creative outcomes include the main installation at the Ballarat Mining Exchange, immersive sound pieces composed by Raul Sanchez, word-based artworks, and collaborative contributions from community-led initiatives such as Fontella Zine Machine and Murrup Arts.
Key creative contributors include Design Studio One&Other, and Publicists Zilla and Brook, have helped shape the project’s visual identity and communications, supporting a seamless integration of community stories into the broader narrative.
Throughout the project, The Social Crew has built strong partnerships with local businesses including Rare Trades Centre, The Unicorn, Art Gallery of Ballarat, Federation University, and the Waddawurrung Traditional Owners. A strong commitment to sustainability and prioritising local suppliers were possible underpins our approach to delivery.
This collaboration demonstrates the power of art to connect people, place, and culture, celebrating Ballarat’s creative spirit through shared experiences and collective imagination.
